Thankful: November 28th

Green Tomatoes The Prudent Homemaker

Today I am thankful for tomatoes!

It looks like we'll get a frost tonight. The tomatoes started flowering in October (once the temperatures dropped) and I've been picking tomatoes today with 4 of my girls. I'm grateful to have tomatoes. We'll ripen some of these inside, fry some, and use some to make salsa verde!

I'm off to pick the rest of them now!

What are you grateful for today?

I'm thankful for warm, comfortable pajamas to lounge in. I'm truly a creature of comfort....I just can't wait to change into my comfy PJ's at the end of the day.

Today I am thankful our local pharmacy offers free delivery on 2 or more prescriptions. I do not feel very good today, did not want to be out and about but needed to get my medications as well as my husbands. All I had to do was make a phone call.

It is still warm here. Wish we could get a frost or something...My air conditioner is running right now.

I'm thankful for sunshine and snow...and 4 of the best friends anyone could ever ask for.

  • Polly Wog November 28, 2016

The days are getting shorter. Snow is predicted this week. I am thankful to come home at the end of the day.

  • Laurie in central NC November 28, 2016

Today I'm thankful for a day at home, much of which was spent sorting, organizing, & discarding or passing on items. It always feels better when I do this.

  • Elizabeth M. November 28, 2016

I am thankful that there was sunshine today after frost and snow on the trees, so everything sparkled.

  • Amie November 28, 2016

I've also heard of green tomato bread. I haven't tried yet. But, I've heard it's similar to zucchini bread. It's a quick bread.

Thankful for old friends. One of ours stopped in today, unexpectedly. It was nice to catch up and to see him again. He grew up here and now lives in another state so we've seem him little in recent years. But he stopped in and we couldn't have been more pleased to see him.

I'm thankful for savings especially when the boss 'forgets' to sign the checks. I wonder if trouble is brewing….

I am thankful for my friends that made me laugh so hard today, I nearly pee'd my pants!

I'm thankful to be able to come home at the end of a day and just take a breather and sit on the sofa before I tackle chores. So nice not to have to rush around preparing dinner or such!

  • Lea Stormhammer November 28, 2016

I'm thankful that my husband made dinner tonight. And that my son's 6th grade basketball team won their first game of the season tonight. They had a rough season last year so it's nice to get off to a good start this year!

I am thankful to have a job I love!

I am thankful for all I have learned in the past few years, on blogs like this! Today I made homemade turkey noodle soup, the carcass was so big I had to use the crockpot and the big pot on the stove. I had a doctors appointment this afternoon, so made the first batch of broth on the stove this am and put the meat and broth in the fridge before I left. When I got home, I took out the broth and meat out of the fridge and made the soup for dinner tonight and it was great, along with homemad bread! After dinner I took the carcass out of the crockpot and put that meat and broth in the fridge to feeeze for soup later.

What a difference! This soup, from a carcass I used to throw out, is excellent and will feed us for many meals, and is delicious. It is a great feeling! My husband loves the soup and bread, and it really tastes better than store bought. Thank you for the inspiration. I know for a fact that the only reason I am baking bread is due to Brandy and her writing about bread making!

Yum! We love homemade soup and homemade bread around here.

  • Becky November 28, 2016

I have to laugh. The weather this year is so strange that Las Vegas is getting frost before us!!! I love your tomatoes and the other pictures of produce you have been posting.

I also thankful for good medical care for my children. During the past 2 weeks, I have taken 2 of my children for physicals. They got some immunizations. I know that's controversial for some, but I choose to have my children have them. My grandfather had polio and suffered being slightly crippled his entire life from it. My grandmother lost a toddler to either measles or scarlet fever (not sure). Those are the 2 that touched my family the closest. I don't want my children to suffer those things if I can help it. I'm also glad they can treat so many other things and my children are much healthier than many kids in places where this kind of care is not available.

i am thankful for central heating. How easy we have it to just press a button and heat the entire apartment.

  • Mrs. Picky Pincher November 29, 2016

Today I'm thankful for our new kitten! We adopted him from the shelter over the weekend and it feels like I've found a part of my life that was missing. He's never been outside of a shelter, so the world is full of fascinating surprises for him. It's like I'm seeing the world new all over again. He makes me laugh and, while he's very mischievous, he's so much fun to be around. :)

Today I am thankful for rain! We're having our first soaking rain in months, which is especially wonderful as it will hopefully help with the forest fires in the area. When I awoke to the sound of rain on our metal roof, it was wonderful this morning!

  • Jean November 29, 2016

Thankful for the rain too in the southeast. We live in NC and our favorite hiking spot has had terrible fires. Our water in our well is low as well, so bring on the rain just no flooding please.

Thankful for my son who brought home 6 pumpkins from a festival he works at. I have cooked three, am cooking another this morning, gave away another to a dear friend, and have one left. It was enough for my two daughter' s families , my dear friend and for myself. The seeds we snacked on Thanksgiving day.

I am grateful for free bagged leaves that I use for mulching during the winter and for compost.

for my two daughters, my sister, myself and my dear friend. I cooked the pumpkin seeds and had them out for Thanksgiving.

I am also grateful for free bagged leaves that I use to mulch and in my compost piles!
