Thankful: November 4th

Thankful Series

On the fourth Thursday of the November, Americans celebrate Thanksgiving. It is a day to give thanks to God for our many blessings.

For the month of November, I will be posting one or more thing for which I am grateful that day. Remembering to count our blessings leads to contentment. I'd love you to share a blessing or more for which you feel grateful each day as well!

Today is election day in the United States. Today, I am thankful for the blessing of being able to vote.

What are you grateful for today?

I am thankful that last income tax time we were able to get a wood stove put in, even though it was too warm to use it then. It's getting cold in Oregon and I no longer have to pay the high cost of central heat. We will finally be warm this winter......finally!

Being able to vote is definitely something to be thankful for. Today I'm very thankful for amazing family members who go out of their way for others. :)

We were in Utah for the primary election back in 2007. I voted (I knew we'd be in Utah so I held off on absentee voting to cast my vote in person) and then stuck my "I Voted" sticker on my 2 year old daughter. We got odd looks all day over that one!

I'm thankful for my family. I'm thankful for beautiful spring days and the sweet warbling of birds. I'm thankful for you and your blog. :D

Whoops - 2008, not 2007. My finger slipped. Sorry.

A good report from my doctor re my asthma, and a dear friend who has cooked me dinner. I drive lots in my job, in rural Australia, and so when I get home on two hours, I will only need to hear up yummy food

It's not me, but one of my friends whose husband is very ill, shared her gratefulness to be waken up during the night by her husband's snoring.

I'm grateful to be alive !

I'm thankful for the rain, that has returned after a long time and after the water reservoirs are nearly empty.

  • Brandy @ The Prudent Homemaker November 05, 2014

That is very good news! I have been following the news of the drought in Brazil and I have prayed that it would rain before the reservoirs were empty. I know they were almost empty by now.

I am blessed by being able to vote and by the over abundance of the produce in my kitchen that is taking most of my time to preserve.

In addition to being thankful for voting, I'm thankful for my parents and my eyesight. Back in 1967, Mom and Dad spent $500 to buy me contact lenses (in 1967 dollars, not adjusted for inflation). Contacts were new back then and very few people knew about them. I have no idea how they afforded that but I know it was a big hit on the budget/savings. It also took 8 fittings in Pittsburgh, an hour from where we lived, so they spent a lot of time doing it, too. My eyes were deteriorating badly and the contact lenses stopped that deterioraton so I did not go legally blind, as the eye doctor warned I could/would. My eyesight is still bad uncorrected since I have an eye condition that precludes corrective surgery, but every day when I put in my contacts I can see and I'm grateful that my parents bought them and they eye doctor fitted them so well.

I am thankful for having such a wonderful mom. In 2009 our lives pretty much crumbled around us. I lost my job (which I had come to loath), my father died unexpectedly and my daughter, who was in grade one, was having tremendous problems at school (she was later diagnosed with ADHD and Asperger's). We were in major financial trouble and I was suffering from serious depression. We were in desperate need of something positive in our lives.

To get my life back on track, I decided to create something positive and go back to school. My mom allowed us to move in with her, and we sold our house. She has been wonderful for our daughter in providing stability and routine in her life. We are still living with her, but are becoming more financially secure. We are currently saving for a house and hope to find one that has an in-law suite so my mom can come with us.

I cannot express how incredibly grateful I am to have her as my mom!

When I woke up this morning, I thought there is something missing each day I am getting up. Then I realized it was November 5. I needed to celebrate this season of giving. My plan was to write a day of blessing each day in November. I lost my way. OK, I can start today was my feeling. Then I come to check your blog and there is a wonderful reminder about giving thanks.

Despite many struggles and challenges, I am humbled, joyous, and grateful that my beautiful children are healthy and my child is healing.

I am thankful that my children are happy, healthy, and don't need/want for anything.

I am thankful for the good soaking rain we are receiving in Texas.

I am thankful that my husband got a deer today to fill our freezer with free meat for the winter.

My two little dogs who are litter mates 14th birthday today ! We didn't know if they would both make it. They are a part of our family and my children don't remember life without them.

I am so thankful for my husband, he works so hard to provide for me and the three grandchildren we are raise. He went a year without a job and we had to live off the little he got from unemployment and our savings but we hot thru now he drives a hour and half on good days each way to work a 12 hour shift four days a week. So gratefully that I married a man that cares for his family first.

I am so grateful that my husband and daughter are alive and in my life. On October 20th, my husband was hit by a pickup truck as he was crossing the street on his way to catch the bus to go to work. He must have been in God's hands for he was badly bruised and shaken and very very sore but not broken or worse.
I am so grateful he is alive.

I am thankful for our rain! We are in a constant state of drought here in Texas, and it has rained steadily all day yesterday & this morning. We need every drop! I'm also grateful for our cool fall weather.

  • Tina S. November 05, 2014

What a great series, Brandy. The new website looks wonderful.

I am thankful that my husband has a good job, works very hard, and provides well for us. I am very thankful that I was able to quit my job earlier this year working in a dysfunctional office, and take some time off. We are extremely fortunate and blessed. I am thankful for family and friends for their support and love.
