Winter Simper

I’m thankful that I was able to listen to and talk with my daughter.

What are you thankful for today?

(And that’s a sneak peek at one of the dresses she made for herself in October! Once I get a photo of her in one more outfit I’ll share them!)

  1. I’m thankful my fiancee was able to find a hand wheel for my vintage sewing machine to replace a broken one, & get it running again. I”m also thankful for the inspiration and helpful links here, which prompted me to get started on an embroidery gift for my niece yesterday.

  2. I am thankful for what I have learned from becoming more frugal. I have recently sewed 3 items from up-cycled fabric I bought very inexpensively at the thrift store. Furthermore, I am noticing my sewing skills have improved from my efforts, not to mention some of the other craft skills I’ve learned as well. I’m not afraid to give homemade Christmas gifts and no longer feel I’m being cheap by giving these. In the grocery stores, I pass over big sales on packaged cookies, granola bars, and pre-packaged lunch treats on a regular basis, opting to bake my own lunch treats at home. When there are excellent deals on produce and meat (seasonal sales or clearance section), I now know how to preserve them, so we can stock up to save even more long term. I know the best prices and when to buy extra to stock up our pantry. I cook far more meals at home than I ever used to and often we have lots of options because we have a well stocked pantry. Really, it is just amazing how far I’ve come on my frugal journey. But most of all, I am so grateful for on-line blogs, especially Brandy’s, that continue to teach me new ways to stretch our hard earned money. Thank you, Brandy, for hosting such a wonderful, supportive community for frugal mindsets. You are a true blessing!

  3. Winter is a beautiful young lady. And from the looks of it, incredibly talented as well! I’m sure you’re very proud of her.

  4. Today I’m thankful to get a little alone time this weekend! I adore my husband but it’s nice to have the house to myself for a few days. 🙂 I plan on using the peace and quiet to catch up on a lot of batch cooking and watching corny shows on Netflix! It’s paradise. 🙂

  5. Today I am thankful that my son is coming home from college and has the whole week off for the thanksgiving holiday! This has been my first year of an empty nest and it has been a tough adjustment for this stay at home mom of 24 years. Off to make his favorite cookies to welcome him home!

  6. I’m thankful the daughter who lives away booked her flights home last night.
I’m thankful the mother of her very good friend used points to send my daughter to visit her daughter ( who lives away)over the Christmas break. The mum chose this as a Christmas gift for her daughter. How sweet. They are both students.

  7. Today I’m thankful that after my DH, my mum is my best friend. She gets my jokes and references, no matter how obscure they are, gives awesome advice (and knows when to just listen), and makes me feel so loved. I get a warm and fuzzy feeling in my heart just thinking about her. I feel very lucky.

  8. I too am experiencing the empty nest and, although it is such a blessing for my children to be successful, it is a transition that requires me to focus on being cheerful on purpose. I’m with you in prayer and spirit!

  9. I too, am thankful for my two daughters who confide in me and welcome heart to heart conversations. They are some of God’s richest blessings.

  10. Today I am thankful that the two little ones I have left at home (I have 5 in elementary/middle school) are taking a nap at the same time. I had to be up very early to see my husband off on a work trip, and this small moment of peace is a true blessing to this tired mama today.

  11. I am thankful that we were able to save enough money to get our usual beef from the farmer we always do. I’ve been setting money aside as I could for the past year, as normal, and we got the call yesterday that it is ready to cut and wrap. We always get a 1/2 every fall. The farmer asks to be informed in the spring if we don’t want to buy it, so we are getting the entire 1/2 this year. However, after this crazy summer/year, we can see that we are simply not really eating an entire 1/2 in a year anymore, with such a smaller family, and because I used to take several meals per week to people due to my husband’s previous job. So, we will ask for 1/4 next time. In the meanwhile, I will probably sell a bit of it to family and friends who don’t want an entire 1/2 if it looks like too much when added with what is left over. I’m also going to begin taking beef meals to family Sunday dinners, etc. What a great problem to have and I am very thankful to have an abundance of meat be my “big crisis” for the week—you have no idea the relief that is!!

  12. I am thankful that I had breakfast with a friend I haven’t seen recently. It was so good to catch up with her and find out how she and her family are doing.

I am also thankful that we have no where we have to go to tonight. We’ve been too busy lately!

  13. Your daughter looks very much like you. The eyes and smile are very similar.

I am thankful today for good friends. Tonight we have our Friday night bible study group. We have met every Friday night for almost 10 years now. With very few misses. Saturday an old daycare client and her daughter (now 17) are going to come over for a visit. Last night we had to put or dog down. Belle had been a rescue from this family. They had brought her for Sarah for her birthday. Had now realized that Belle would get as big as she did. When Belle was playing with Sarah who was almost 4 she would knock her down…..so they gave Belle to us and got Sarah a dachshund. But Sarah has always loved Belle and come over to visit her etc. I made a plaster of Paris paw print for her to keep. She will come pick it up Saturday.

  14. I’m thankful for my health and for each and every day I get to spend with my family, especially since two years ago I was starting radiation therapy for breast cancer. Praise God, the cancer continues to be in remission.

  15. Today I am thankful my uncle made it through a very risky surgery today. He is not out of the woods yet, but he was awake afterwards, and knew my sister was there. (She is a nurse at the hospital where he had the surgery.) I just hope he manages to improve over the next couple of days. He’s been through so many surgeries and heart problems.

  16. Today I am thankful that my brothers phone is working again. He is a disabled Veteran living in Tucson. Last time I talked to him before his phone stopped working he had injured his back and was bearly able to get up and down. He lives alone and has to ride the bus to get groceries. As the store is a long ways away. Today he told me be was able to walk across the street to Circle to get Milk. Someone had left corn flakes and a little canned food for him.
