Thankful: November 4th
Today, I’m thankful for my husband’s patience as I drew and redrew part of the garden plans both inside and outside. We discovered that our wall on the east side of the garden is not straight; we had measured it along the back of the garden near the fig tree, but it is considerably shorter…

Today as I dug in the garden and planted bulbs, I was very grateful that we were able to relandscape the garden. That area of the garden had been overrun with solid crabgrass roots and I had not been able to eradicate them in over 15 years. We removed all of the soil from that…

I was setting up my blanket and checking my light when this goose started honking repeatedly near me and then walked right in front of my camera today! It was followed by two other geese, each a different type of goose (the second goose was a Canadian goose). It was so funny! Today, I’m thankful…

I am thankful that I had the chance to work in the garden for an hour. I was able to do this because I cooked a turkey and some squash earlier in the day, giving me time outside during the time I would usually be making dinner. I will try to work in the garden…

I’ve lived in Las Vegas for 18 years, and every year, the wind comes in on Halloween or the day before, bringing a drastic drop in temperature and signaling the end of warm days for the year. According to the weather predictions, the same was set for this year. Sunday it was 84°F. Wednesday it…

I’m thankful for the gladness of weddings. I’ve happily attended three this year, including the one in my own back yard. Each was a unique and beautiful event reflecting the dreams and tastes of very different couples, but they had these in common: love, hope, joy. I think my son summed it up in the haiku he wrote for his cousin:
June, post-pandemic
A real cause to celebrate
Love, a breath of air.
I’m grateful we can pay our bills. I’m grateful to have food and the ability to choose healthy food, on a budget, but healthy.
I’m thankful we had a quiet, peaceful, drama-free Thanksgiving. Also thankful my husband has always loved and appreciated leftovers.
I am grateful for a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend with all but one of our children. Our youngest son remains hospitalized, but I know God is working to heal him in His time.
Today I am grateful for modern plumbing. It’s cold and dark here and it’s so wonderful that even with our dishwasher broken we can stay inside our nice sheltered house and perfectly clean water just pours magically out of the taps for us to wash up with.
I am thankful my work schedule is flexible at the front of the week! I got sick and it is not a 72 hour bug. Thankful it isn’t Covid!

I am grateful that the book arrived on Friday. Saturday was a beautiful day which we spent at our printers where we boxed books for mailing, put books in envelopes we’d previously addressed, managed to have books picked up by our volunteers who are storing them, and delivered books according to delivery routes to the volunteers who will deliver them (and in fact have done so). We tried to beat the weather change yesterday but ended up distributing books to people who braved the weather and came to pick them up. We sat in the snow. And we are thankful that we have heat!
It started snowing today and will continue every day for the rest of the week. I’m thankful for a warm home and a warm dog who loves to cuddle! Also, the 25-year-old snowblower started on the first pull!
I’m also thankful that all of the Thanksgiving leftovers have either been eaten or frozen. In addition to freezing turkey cubes for future meals, I also froze two ready-to-eat meals. (We ate a ready meal last week–these are so handy when I can’t or don’t want to cook).
I’m sorry you’ve been ill, Brandy. I hope you and your family feel better soon.
