I’m thankful that I’ve always been a morning person.

My mother tells me that when I was a little over a year old, I would climb up and jump out of my crib every morning at 4 a.m.

I was ready to start the day!

Getting up early in the morning affords me the opportunity for quiet work and reflection. I am able to wash and dry 3 loads of laundry before breakfast (especially if I set one load to wash around 2 a.m. so that I can put it in the dryer when I wake up). I get a chance to pray, read my scriptures, work on this site, edit photos for clients, do some online shopping and research, etc. while it is quiet and I can concentrate.

What are you thankful for today?

  1. I too am thankful to be a morning person. I don’t have so much work to do so I love to be outside early with a cup of tea watching the sun rise (weather permitting). I like to close my eyes and listen to all the sounds and try to identify the birds I hear. I live in a small town so there is very little traffic and just the noises of car doors closing and people going off to work. I am happily retired.

  2. I’m thankful for medications and other blessings such as soft Kleenex, hot tea, and vitamins when feeling unwell!

  3. I am thankful to God for always knowing what I need. The man I helped for 3+ years died at the end of August. I have been heartbroken. I started watching a little boy last week and he makes my heart so happy.

  4. I am grateful for all the hard work my husband put out this very hot summer to secure our winter wood..(we had our first fire this morning)..and I am very grateful my compromised back isn’t as pain filled this morning.

  5. I am thankful it is to be 15 C here today-a very warm Nov day for Calgary. I think we will grill some burgers and make potato salad-pretending it is summer for just a little longer.

  6. I am thankful that my family instilled a good work ethic in me. I see many friends that relay on convenience foods, hire out yard work, pay someone else to wash their cars, wash their clothes, or clean their homes. I am grateful that I grew up in a home where we were taught to clean, cook, maintain the yard, plant a garden, and take care of the things we had. This is a trait I am working to pass onto my son in the hope that he will learn to see the simple joys of working hard and reaping the benefit of a good day’s work.

  7. Early rising certainly has many benefits, and I am working on that to boost my productivity!

I am thankful for healthy food and our health overall. It seems each day one hears about someone who has been diagnosed with a disease or someone who needs surgery. It is a blessing to have good health.

  8. I am thankful for your beautiful photos. That may seem superficial, but they uplift me. These pictures are some of the only flowers I see on a regular basis during the pandemic. Their beauty reminds me that God is in everything. Thank you Brandy.

    1. When I was younger, I had a poster of flowers on my wall that I had bought for myself as a teen. Those were the main flowers I would see.

I follow several florists on Instagram. I love seeing their work!

  9. I am thankful that I live in Arizona, lots of great weather and scenery. I take a walk every morning (and many late afternoons) and focus on the scenery and how beautiful the area is, it is my morning time for reflection and peace and I am very grateful for this habit.

  10. I’m thankful for extended family. My mother in law is coming this afternoon (she lives 90 minutes from us) to watch the children while my husband and I go to dinner and do a little Christmas shopping. On top of that, she called this morning and said she would take care of dinner for her and the kids. What a blessing!

  11. Today I am very thankful for the safe arrival of a new great niece. My niece had a high risk pregnancy after a still birth about 3 years ago and things did not go as smoothly as hoped at the delivery. But in the end, both mom and baby are well and I do thank God for that.

  12. I am thankful for a much better relationship with my daughter and son-in-law since they moved out of my house and into their own apartment in late July. They lived with me for almost 11 months, including during the planning of their wedding last November, and let’s just say that we do a lot better living apart rather than together. They are only a few miles away but seeing her and/or both of them every week or two is much better for our relationship than seeing them every day.

  13. I am thankful that I have the ability to take care of my family each morning. Last year I was very ill and had to have a major surgery the week before Thanksgiving that put me out of commission for six weeks. I am so grateful that I was able to return to taking care of my family.

  14. I am thankful for a lovely daughter-in-law. She is spending the week with us, while working in our town. My son waited until he was 39 to get married (Just last April) – and they are a wonderful couple. We are getting to know her better, as she stays with us this week.

  15. I am thankful for beautiful fall weather. I love the colors of the leaves, the crunch underfoot as I walk and the cooler days.

  16. I am grateful that both of my siblings live on the very same 5 mile stretch of country road as my mom and I do. I live with the 85 yo mom and can always count on siblings and nephew to check on her and bring food if I’m out of town just for day or gone for two weeks. I think she eats better when I’m gone than when I’m home (I hate to cook but my sister and sister in law are great cooks).

  17. I am thankful for my love of and close relationship with animals all of my life. I have had so many precious experiences with animals both great and small, those who have belonged to me, those of others, and those who belonged to no one but themselves. For years, I wanted to become a veterinarian but, for many reasons, am glad I kept my love of animals as a hobby and part of a farming lifestyle rather than as a profession in that way. I am grateful for the knowledge I received when I attended classes for wildlife rehabilitation many years ago. I am especially grateful for the cats and kittens we have been able to rescue over the past two years as an official foster family for our local Humane Society. It is easy to think you care more for homeless animals than anyone and, thus, must keep them all (and, boy, is it tempting at times!) But, I am glad that we can help even more animals than would be wise for us to keep as part of our permanent family by fostering. We just trapped another kitten this morning and are hoping to catch the other two we saw by tonight. Caring for some of the littlest and most vulnerable of God’s creatures is a real blessing!

  18. I’m thankful that I located a lost package coming to my place of employment. It was very, very frustrating, but with some legwork and phone work, I found it.

  19. I am very thankful that the wood stove that I ordered several months ago has arrived and will be hooked up before winter sets in.

  20. I’m in my senior years and am incredibly grateful for the wonderful life I’ve had. I was raised on a small farm and learned skills such as gardening, thrift, and sewing. My husband and I were married over 50 years before he passed. He was the most interesting person I’ve ever known so conversations were interesting. Together we raised two daughters who have given us 5 wonderful grandchildren. Both married wonderful men who have become my sons. We didn’t always have a lot of money but we figured it out together. We lived a thrifty life which suited us. I have memories of sitting down to dinner every night, picnics, games and so many other things. It wasn’t all a bed of roses but looking back the bad times we did it together and the memories are ones I’ll be grateful for until I join my husband. I’m a very lucky woman.

  21. I am thankful that my parents live a block and a half away from my house in a caring seniors community after living literally on the other side of the country for 25 years. They are in independent living apartments and loving it so far. After years of only seeing them a couple of times per year we see them at least once per week, which is amazing!

  22. I’m so very thankful that I live in a state with a Governor, Attorney General and Surgeon General who all respect and defend personal freedom and the Constitution.

  23. I am thankful that we have a big supply of our own rainwater in tanks that most of the home runs off and we can then pay less for town water use 🙂 .

  24. I’m thankful for our gorgeous, cooler fall days here in southern Arizona. The pineapple guava fruits are dropping and are egg-sized (and delicious!) this year due to the incredible summer monsoons. I’m thankful for those, too.

  25. I might have written this last year, but thankfulness bears repeating!
I am thankful for the persons with disabilities, parents and families and guardians, classmates, teachers, administrators, advocates, social workers, lawyers, legal aids, judges, government workers, researchers, health care professionals, and all the others who have made my son’s life much more than it would have been even ten, let alone forty or seventy or hundreds of years ago.
He is on the autism spectrum, and every time we went to an IEP meeting at his school and I would get the List of Legal Rights, I would thank the people who through all their work in the past (consider all the court cases that went in to writing that document!) got us to that point.

  26. Today i am thankful for my six year old granddaughter. We live so far away that it has taken her awhile to feel close enough to us to be herself. Today is her birthday so we called to sing to her. She chatted up a storm which makes me so happy!

  27. I am thankful for the dog we recently added to our home. She fits in with the other farm dogs well, but also gives my boys sweet snuggles and always seems so happy and grateful to be here. We really love her.

  28. I am thankful we were able to go on a vacation. It was really nice to do something we’d put off and feel safe in doing so.

  29. Today I am thankful for Hap, our little boy dog. He has made the loss of our other dog, Molly, so much more bearable. I had wondered how he would be as an only dog, and the answer is–great! He always lived in her shadow and he is really coming into his own. He has always had anxiety issues and is doing a lot better with those, too.

  30. I’m grateful my 79 year old husband came through his shoulder surgery so well. He’s taking full responsibility for his rehab exercises too.

I’m also grateful that the food bank, for which I work, always has so much bread and sweets that I can take some home.

  31. I am thankful for our garden. There is still a lot of colour from flowers and shrubs that are turning colour and this cheeriness is a great boost as we move through autumn and into winter. We have vegetables growing through the winter and we are so grateful for fresh greens to keep us healthy.

  32. I consider myself a lifelong learner and the older I get the more interested I am in many things. I am thankful for inheriting some traits that came down through generations that have contributed to this: love of family, reading, math, and school; being organized and independent; making decisions that are contrary to what is popular if I know its best for me/my family; trying new things; asking questions; and saying no to big and small things that are not beneficial to me/my family’s health or future and/or prohibits someone from learning to grow and take responsibility no matter the age. I can see, looking back, that many of the traits were evident in childhood and developed more fully as I grew up. Brandy, I have pictures of me coloring in the kitchen while Mom was making breakfast and talking to them during breakfast before Dad left for work at 7:00 A.M. and am now wondering where my older brother and sister were. They had to leave for school shortly.

  33. I am thankful that I have will power of steel. It’s being put to good use right now as I work on getting my strength back. I’m grateful to have the opportunity to recover, but mostly just want to lay about and rest! 🙂

  34. I just cut one last bouquet of flowers (actually got two small ones) from that garden bed that was such a disappointment this year. Here in the autumn, I had cosmos finally bloom, a few zinnias gave it their all and the marigolds went nuts and looked like twelve plants instead of just the three that actually came up. I’m very thankful for these late fall blooms. Tonight we will have our first frost and I expect this is the last I shall see of my own flowers this year.

  35. I am thankful to have seen a particularly beautiful autumn where I live. The leaves turned glorious colors and lasted for weeks. I love the contrast of bright yellow leaves against a bold blue sky. I was able to go on several hikes as well.
