I am thankful that I had the chance to work in the garden for an hour. I was able to do this because I cooked a turkey and some squash earlier in the day, giving me time outside during the time I would usually be making dinner.

I will try to work in the garden for an hour each day this week before sunset (which is at 4:45 now) by eating leftover turkey in different, simple meals, as well as having a few meals with the beans I cooked last week.

  1. I am grateful today for living in the country and looking out the laundry room window to a hillside of beauty and nature. NW PA is so beautiful this time of year. The leaves are mostly fallen but the leaves on the brush are so colorful. Lots of brown, red, orange and yellow hues. I am very blessed!!

  2. I am thankful for my two West Highland white terriers (Westies), one a giveaway and the other an actual rescue, who love me and never fail to make me laugh! I read somewhere that Westies are “friendly and self-confident” and that’s the truth!

  3. I am thankful we only needed to relight the pilot light to get our furnace heat to work. By Thanksgiving we will be needing to turn that on.

  4. I am thankful for my ladies bible study group. They are real about their struggles in life, but also encouraging and always pointing me back to God.

  5. I am thankful to be able to go to sleep with quiet and peace around me. I’m not fearful or frightened and truly appreciate our military servicemen as well as our veterans for keeping us safe and sound.

  6. I am thankful that my parents spent $500 in 1967 (over $3,800 today when accounting for inflation) to buy me contact lens, a relatively new invention at that time. The contacts basically kept my eyesight where it was, rather than deteriorating to a point of functional blindness by the time I was an adult, which my eye doctor feared.

  7. Today I am thankful that even though it is snowing, there are dozens of birds sitting in the shrubs outside my window singing their hearts out.

  8. I am thankful for the Weaver’s & Spinners Guild special interest group I have joined, which give me a joyful break from the mundane, everyday tasks of life. I thoroughly enjoy the creativity aspects of it, as well as the opportunities to learn new things. Sometimes, when life gets complicated, I question my ability to continue. But then I go and remember why I love being there. I am so grateful to have found something that fulfills a personal need and makes me happy.

  9. I am thankful for the different jobs I have, after homeschooling and raising kids for 32 years. I work for four different families and do care for babies to a 91year old!

  10. I am thankful for the view of the mountains from my kitchen window. It reminds me to appreciate all the beauty God has provided.

  11. I am thankful for the longtime presence in my life of a good family friend, Louise. She died two years ago this month at the age of 93. She spent many holidays with our family after her husband died, and was an enjoyable and gracious guest. I was always amazed at her faith, openness and zest for life, even after losing three of her five adult children in tragic circumstances. She continues to be an inspiration to me, and I am so thankful to have known her.

  12. I am thankful for my family and how they all helped raise me well. My grandmother, great aunt, aunt and mother, along with two wonderful brothers, set me on a good course for my life, and I am grateful for their teachings.

  13. I am thankful that my autoimmune disease is not flaring, even in the midst of the stress of my husband’s health issues. I am feeling quite well enough to carry on, and that is a blessing.

  14. I am thankful for my oldest grandson who turned 15 today. He is smart and funny and good and (as I tell him often) he is the one who gave me a new name…”Grammie”…and a new job, being a grandmother. He is a lovely young man and I am very proud of him.

  15. I am thankful we are all in good health! I am also thankful that I was able to see the movie “Christmas Jars” last night with a dear friend. It gave us ideas to help someone we know anonymously. I highly recommend it if it plays in theaters again…but, if it doesn’t, you can read the book by the same title. This is Christmas.

  16. I am thankful to have a safe and warm place to lay my head at night. It is truly a blessing to have a roof over my head when l see the number of homeless individuals around our area.

  17. Thankful for my sister, who was the only bright spot in a miserable and dangerous childhood. We both made it through alive, and she married a wealthy husband. She shares her good fortune by giving practical gifts that I would not be able to easily afford (like a new furnace!). Thankful for her husband as well, because he is supportive of her sharing.

  18. I am thankful that my dear daughter who had the myelogram procedure on Monday did not have the severe headache or extra weakness in her legs that she had experienced from previous myelograms. The procedure was done to monitor the vertebral degeneration and help determine why her last nerve ablation did not give her any pain relief.

  19. I am thankful for the help our soon to retire archivist gave me today. I had looked at a diary again and noted an entry of great relevance to our book (yes, the book without end…). I asked him why it had the entry if there were no volume for 1899 the year in question. How could there be an entry with no diary? He thought for a few minutes then brought me a roll of microfilm and voilà I had the relevant entry. My friend had kindly taken photos of each page of the diary but he did not realize that year is available (since the listing said it wasn’t). And so I am rewriting a 4th chapter with a lot of new information. And my friend will be overcome with al of the new information. He will have to rewrite some of his project, too. I am thankful we are finding out all of this before the book was printed. I am so glad I pointed out the inconsistency to the archivist and better I am thankful that he found what we needed!

The archives is closed except there are some appointments to research information that has not yet been transferred. The archivist has let me claim 8 long tables to use — to sort out the 300 x 7 (2100) family photos that I am making albums of. I hope to have all the photos labelled and assembled into albums in about 3 solid weeks of work. I finally have enough room to spread out. I am thankful that a few years ago I cold-called a man out of the blue who is a distant cousin and that he told me about the box and that I will be able to return the photos to their rightful owner (whose mother with Alzheimer’s said she had no children and no one was interested in the box and gave the box away) — all assembled for the owners into 4 albums. I will keep 2 and donate 1 to a museum in trade for info about the other side of my family. I am so glad I phoned that man.

  20. I’m so thankful that my mom and younger sister were able to visit today, and most weeks. They get to see my daughter in her baby- and toddler-hood, and I get a chance to go to dr’s appointments, run errands, and batch cook. Plus, I just really enjoy the company of my family. I’m so, so lucky and I appreciate them so much. I know my mom is getting older, and I’m so thankful that we live in the same city and that we get to spend time together on a regular basis.

  21. I am thankful for my mom. My sisters and I celebrated her 94th birthday a few days ago by giving her a book where each of us answered/wrote responses to questions or statements. After enjoying her birthday cake we all sat at the kitchen table and read these heart-felt comments. Truth be told, by the end all of us were in tears and they were tears of joy.
    HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM!!!!

  22. I’m thankful today to have reconnected with a couple we were good friends with in a different season of our lives.
In the last I “ bumped” into both the husband and wife separately and have begun the process of reconnecting.

  23. I am thankful to have a job. I’m thankful that I can work, that my health is holding up. I’m thankful my husband can work part time, even though his health is poor right now. We have enough. We suffer for nothing. God is good.

  24. I am thankful for my five year old grandson whom I watch each week for reminding me to see things through a child’s eyes. He is a non-stop talker and never fails to amuse me!

  25. I have been thankful all week long for NO doctor appointments! So much housework has been done. My Daughter and son in law came over most of yesterday and helped. My husband’s friend took him for a ride and out to lunch. Son in law put plastic on the inside of the kitchen windows to keep drafts out. The old plastic was shot and that corner of the house gets the wind most of the time. It will save us money and keep us warmer all winter.
My daughter threw a couple loads of their things in my washer, and while they were washing, she dustmopped my ceilings and upper walls, and brought her Shark vacuum again and got up some more sticky cat hair. My vacuum is especially for pet hair but doesn’t do the job hers does! While she did that I tackled a pile of junk mail and just plain junk, that got filed on the top of the buffet for way too long.
For those who don’t remember, my husband has dementia and cannot help do much anymore and in fact slows me down a good part of the time. I have my share of aging problems –next week, two days of afternoon appointments. We might be happy to get out of the house by then as the next week is going to be COLD!! Once the car is warm, we can take different routes home for a change of scenery. In the meantime, the break has been much appreciated!
