Some rain fell in parts of the Las Vegas Valley! We only had a few drops at my house (literally–they could have been counted).

I had a photoshoot, so I was very thankful it wasn’t raining on us!

What are you thankful for today?

  1. Thankful for two things today and everyday. On this Remembrance Sunday I’m grateful for all those who gave their lives for our freedom and those who continue to serve to keep us safe.
Also the NHS, a daughter was taken by ambulance to hospital and stayed in last night but the doctors think they know what the problem is and how to sort it out. So thankful.

  2. I’m thankful for the rain we had yesterday, as we have had a very dry year as well (we’re officially in extreme drought conditions.)

  3. Today i’m thankful for a five year old grand-daughter who wanted to talk to me on the phone! She gabbed and gabbed and it was delightful! When she was done, she asked to speak to her grandfather. This really lifted our hearts!

  4. I am thankful that someone has sent us some historical information needed for our book.

I am thankful for heat on this cold snowy day.

I am thankful that I have enough in my pantry that I can give food to the church food bank
which provides food to anyone regardless of faith. I have been saving up for this goal.

I am thankful that a friend values my heritage so much that when her daughter wished to give away
a wedding gift I had given her 14 years ago that she mailed it back with an exquisite note. The irony is that
they mistakenly thought the gift (a silver-plated coffee set) was part of my family heritage. How they got this idea
I’m not quite sure. It wasn’t antique. If it’s the thought that counts, it means a lot to me that my friend herself went to the trouble and expense to ship it back to me. Normally one would just quietly give an unwanted gift away to someone who would value it (especially when the donor lives thousands of miles away and would never know) but in this case my friend thought it was part of my family history so she returned it. I have written to her and her daughter thanking them so much for their thoughtfulness, without revealing it wasn’t a heritage item.

It reminds me that my Mother had an elderly friend who lived thousands of miles away. One day a parcel arrived. Inside was a very fine china European figurine. It had not been wrapped well and was shattered. My mother simply thanked her friend (we suspect someone had just thrown it in the box or she had done so hurriedly when she was about to go into a nursing home or was about to die). My Mother sent a lovely thank you letter. And then she proceeded to painstakingly glue it back together again. It still graces the home — a symbol of the love my mother’s friend had for her, a symbol of her kindness, and a symbol for me of my Mother’s graciousness.

And so it is with the coffee set, the prized “family heirloom” that has “returned home”.

My generation valued “items” like coffee sets, fine china, etc, fine linen and fabrics. In part, that is because we are the children of Depression-era and WW II parents who had nothing and eventually valued such things not as status symbols but in part for the fineness and eventually security.

  5. 11/6 – I am thankful for extra warm weather these past few days. I have been able to complete some additional outside chores.
11/7 – I am thankful for my daily meditation practice.

  6. Lots of reasons to be thankful today! We had coffee and danish at a lovely little cafe this morning, met good friends, and sat outside on the patio so we could bring our dog plus avoid being indoors with the virus risk. The weather, for Phoenix, has turned cool, it was 50, but the cafe had outdoor heaters turned on. Lovely morning to spend with friends!

  7. I am thankful for my husband even with his cancer he and I clean up our flowers garden today. I appreciate this blog and everyone comments.

  8. Nov. 8–I’m thankful that I had an epiphany today about outdoor Christmas decorations. I have not put them up most years, until we moved here. I had been going back and forth about this year. Now, one sort of epiphany would have been to just quit…but I’ve actually enjoyed it. This year’s epiphany was to buy a $25 light that projects stars onto the front of the house, and skip the strings of lights. (Might even save on electricity). My daughter has an inflatable Christmas Mickey Mouse, and I think the stars, Mickey, and a small porch display will be perfect! My DH (who never has done ladders) and I are in our 70s and this will be a nice, festive display I can easily continue each year without help. (Why didn’t I think of this years ago??).

    1. Maxine,

My husband told me years ago that being on the roof was too dangerous a task to do each year for lights, so we opted for putting out lights on bushes and on trees instead.Enjoy your simple display!

  9. Today I am thankful for zoom. My husband is a pastor and normally does the worship from the sanctuary. However we had 15+ inches of snow on Friday in Fairbanks and our street is not plowed so if he was going to drive, he would have needed to shovel space in the street as we back out of our parking space. Instead he did Bible Study and worship from home and the liturgist, who has 4-wheel drive, was in the sanctuary. It is warming up, so by the time he would have been coming home, our roads are down to emergency travel only. I am also thankful that old friends were able to join us during the service from their home in Palmer.

  10. I am thankful for the pleasure my garden gives me. The local beekeeper checked on my hive and then came back later to give me a jar of my own honey.

  11. I’m thankful for good healthcare. Even if it is expensive, at least it is available.

  14. I’m thankful for the men and women who have served their countries. Today is Remembrance Sunday. I think of the families who have lost loved ones.
“They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
    We will remember them.

  15. Today I am grateful for modern medicine and the antibiotics that are helping my five year old manage through a major toothache until we can get to the dentist for a filling or extraction. I’m also thankful that he is very brave and has taken said medication and eaten yogurt and other soft foods this weekend without a complaint. Even more thankful that he touched my face and said with no warning ‘mommy you don’t have to worry, after I see the dentist tomorrow I’m going to heal quickly and everything is going to be alright’. Thankful for children who sense the Holy Spirit and encourage parents along the way. What a blessing.

  16. I am thankful for my husband who said this afternoon-“I am going to clean the 3 bathrooms”. Also thankful for our warm house in todays cold and wind.

I’m thankful for the unseasonably gorgeous warm weather we’re having so far this month.
I’m thankful my husband’s health has remained relatively stable. Although I get frustrated sometimes with caregiving responsibilities and taking on nearly all of the household chores, I truly am thankful that I am healthy enough to be able to do so!
I’m thankful that we are at a comfortable level financially and have not been negatively impacted by Covid.
I’m thankful that my employer has allowed/encouraged most of our company to work from home, and been very flexible with people’s schedules.
I’m thankful for this blog and others over the years that have helped me realize I’m not “too” focused on pinching pennies, shopping thrift stores and hunting down deals. I’m not as committed to everything as I was maybe 5 or 10 years ago, but it’s been tremendously helpful to find so many like-minded communities of people when I kept feeling like I was so different from most of my coworkers and friends!

  18. My day did not go as planned. I erred in the planning and my recklessness did cost us a bit of money. Glad that husband was not upset or make a fuss about it. Grateful that we didn’t let it spoil our day; and instead focussed on having good food and laughter for the rest of the day.

  19. Today I was grateful to be able to sit with two granddaughters at church, it is a great joy to attend church with their family and see them grow in their faith.

  20. I am thankful for forgiveness. I forgive two people who weren’t considerate of me and I am hoping for forgiveness from somebody I wasn’t kind to.

  21. I am grateful for apples! They’re healthy and delicious, not very costly, and there are so many kinds and so much you can do with them. Plus they are at their best at this time of year! What a blessing and delight they are.
