Girl in Dollhouse

Whether you have a regular dollhouse or a cardboard dollhouse, it’s always fun to have things to put inside your dollhouse. (You can also use a box to make a single room). These can be printed for an everyday project, or you can save them for birthday and holiday gifts. These are at 1:12 scale (1 inch equals 1 foot). Click below for the pdf files.

Another way to use these would be to make a fabric dollhouse, and to print them on iron-on transfer sheets. You can iron the rugs, artwork, and wallpaper in place where you would like it in your dollhouse.

Dollhouse furniture and accessories can be really expensive. There is a series of Do-It-Yourself dollhouse books that we have found useful. We have been using the following two books (though there are a few more in the series) to make items for my children’s cardboard dollhouses.

Finishing Touches (Dolls House Do-It-Yourself)

Food Displays (Dolls House Do-It-Yourself)

The second book, used for making food, requires Fimo clay. We bought Fimo clay at Joann’s at a 50% off sale, and then used my homeschool teacher’s discount for an additional 15% off. I didn’t buy any special tools, but used what we had around the house to shape the objects (sewing pins, a butter knife, toothpicks, and a nut pick). We used acrylic paints for painting the minature plates that we made. Making miniatures has been part of our art projects for our older children.

In addition, there are free tutorials online as well.

The dolls and the furniture were given to my girls by my brother for a Christmas gift.

This is the bedroom furniture:

If you want to make your own furniture, the following book is excellent:

Making Miniatures: Dolls’ House Projects In 1/12 Scale

Our library district has a copy that you can request; yours may, too.

These are the dolls:

They have fantastic hair! They are also a lot less than most of the dollhouse dolls out there.

There is another set of dollhouse dolls that are about $10 less that are also quite nice that would work also:
