What are you thankful for today?
I’m grateful that I was able to accomplish quite a bit of sewing today. I look forward to taking pictures tomorrow to share with you.
What are you thankful for today?
I am thankful today that my husband and I were able to have a date night at home after the children were in bed! What are you thankful for today?
I’m thankful for a warm bed and a roof over my head. What are you thankful for today?
Today, I am thankful for a warm bed to sleep in. What are you thankful for today?
Today, I am thankful to finally have a great pair of earbuds. I’ve been able to listen to music while staying up late to make pies for Thanksgiving without waking anyone! What are you thankful for today?
I’m thankful for my two-year-old, who yesterday answered my childhood question of whether or not it was possible to stick green olives with pimentos on one’s fingers just as well as black olives. If your fingers are small enough, you sure can! I’m also thankful for all of his ugs, and his remark to…
Today, I am thankful for the beautiful weather that we are having. The windows have been open all day and it’s an absolutely gorgeous day here. I was able to work outside in the garden for a little over an hour in pleasant weather. The first of the paperwhites have started to open in the…
I am thankful for a roof over my head and food on my table and I’m thankful that I was able to have a good phone conversation with a good friend of mine today. It’s always nice to be able to chat, which makes me feel also thankful for unlimited long distance for 6.00 a month *laugh*.
Hello Brandy and all from Australia :D. So glad that you were able to sew quite a bit today too Brandy, sounds as if you are slowly but surely on the mend.
Today I am thankful the abundance of vegetables from our home garden & for adding to our food storage by picking, blanching and freezing 9 bags of turnips before they went to seed with the heat.
I am thankful that I am young enough to help with my grandchildren when needed.
I am thankful for a day off of my temporary job! I will enjoy this day by catching up on reading all of your new blog posts!!!!! Have a blessed day everyone!!!!
I am thankful for the work training I received yesterday, which means I will be working several days spread over this month and next. I am grateful for the paycheck that also goes with the work.
I am really looking forward to seeing all your sewing projects, Brandy. You must be starting to feel a bit better now, though I’m sure there is still pain. As you’ve said, this type of injury takes a while to heal. But I’m glad you are starting to get around a bit better.
I am thankful for a roof over our heads and that we continue to be able to slowly get it paid off. It isn’t anywhere near my dream home of a small house on a large amount of acreage, but it is ALOT more than most of the world calls home and I can even have my poultry here (well, unless a neighbor complains :/)
Thankful for having hand sewing. I was not able to sleep last night. Instead of going crazy in my own mind I picked up a needle and thread and worked on my Christmas embroidery. I went to bed at about 3:00am finally. It will be a long day, but after hours of sewing and thoughtful thinking I was able to sleep about 4 hours.
Brandy, are you feeling better? I think you must be if you can sit at a sewing machine and do some Christmas sewing. I hope so. You have been in my prayers.
I can’t sit normally yet, but there are other ways to sew 🙂 The machine can be put higher and a lot of the time I am standing to iron, cut out patterns, and pin. I used to sit to pin things but now I am standing to do it. I still have to limit my standing time before it gets too painful, but I am working to get some of it done.
That’s great to be able to do something while down. I’m thankful for my mother whom lives with us now (starting on 2 weeks) due to health issues and she will live with us from now on. However today she said she wants to hire a maid to winter clean or organize for me. I feel bad about it but them I can’t do.it all and not with the back.issues I’m having, eventually I’ll be better but I won’t know anything until my consultation with my surgeon again in dec… sigh
Share a few of your extra eggs with your neighbors and they will not complain.
I am thankful that our power came back on. We were in a windstorm with winds over 70 mph and temperatures in the low 30’s. Our power was off for one full night and part of the next day. We now have electricity, hot water and heat. No phone, internet or cable. (I am writing this at work). But we are safe, warm and dry. There are still over 100,000 people in our city without power.
Today my dad and I went to the city together, just him and I. We did some errands and then had lunch together. We had a good meal, great laughs and much needed time together. Definitely a highlight this week.
If your mother has the means to hire help to do some cleaning for you LET her do it. Tell her it can be her Christmas gift to you and the family.
My sister and I took care of our mother after a stroke for more than 8 years. She was paralyzed on one side and could not do for herself. She felt so helpless and useless because we were doing for her. She had some money and finally hired someone to come in and help with her care. My sister has had knee replacement, ankle replacement, and shoulder surgery and has back issues because of lifting and caring for mother. I too am facing knee replacement surgery and back surgery because of the efforts it took to care for her. We do not regret at all caring for mother. We would do it again in a New York minute. But it hurt us both because we were not trained at all in how to lift her and how to do some things for her. Mother had a feeding tube, she could not do anything for her self. It was just not a good time. But we promised our dad we would take care of her after he was gone. We lost our dad to brain cancer.
Anyway, from someone who went down this long road, let her help you in any way she can. It will make her feel useful.
I have a large chest freezer in my sewing room. I use it as a cutting table. It is just the right height for me. I have 2 tables, one with my sewing machine and one with my serger and a ironing board always set between them.
Glad you are feeling up to sewing. To me sewing is almost like a tranquilizer. I can do it and lose myself in thought and prayer. It always makes me feel better.
I hope you feel better everyday.
Hi Dianna and if your Mum is offering to hire and pay for someone to do a one off deep winter clean and organise, I would accept her kind offer in light of your back pain / injuries :D. It would give you a bit of a much needed break that it sounds like you need, and once done it would be easier to keep in order with just short bursts of cleaning from you.
Don’t feel guilty about needing help because of your back issues as there is always times in everyone’s life where we do.
As my husband has back injuries / severe pain I know how that limits your ability to stand for long periods and stretch or bend to do things. Some helpful hints from us that we hope will help is put all your cleaning things on long sticks, for example my husband can clean the bath without bending as we clamped scouring sponges to our window squeegee that has a long stick handle. We bought an extra extension pipe attachment for our vacuum cleaner so he can vacuum underneath the beds and things with minimal bending. Also we put large microfiber cloths on broom or mop heads by tying them around the handle for dusting ceilings, walls, and skirting boards. We both use these handy devices for cleaning, as I have shoulder injuries as well.
We hope that this helps you and gives you some work arounds for your injuries. When you have had severe injuries / pain for a while as my husband has for the last 28 years, you think rather laterally about how you can accomplish things, taking in to consideration any mobility limitations and work out what is the easiest ways to do things for you.
Today I am grateful for my washing machine. It is a blessing to get lots of laundry done quickly so I can move on to the next task.
Hi Brandy and I recognise & love the steely determination, independence and lateral thinking in you to get things done :), and the don’t let anything beat you attitude.
I am thankful that my husband and I work well as a team. I am still recovering from being sick, and he is willing but not accustomed to doing some things. We managed to clean the bathroom and get several errands done today, including the first COMPLETE grocery shopping in three weeks. Pretty sure I have everything I need for Thanksgiving dinner now. I’m back to 80-90% and hoping eventually to get through the day without needing a nap.
I am planning on making homemade bread and gifting them with a couple dozen eggs when the newest ones move in this weekend. The other ones have refuses all but the free range whole chicken I gave them. Many, many people are afraid of finding a chick in home raised eggs – even telling them I don’t keep roosters doesn’t seem to change their minds.
I am thankful for the 11 quart jars of cranberry juice on my counter. They look beautiful, & I don’t have to worry about recalls, because I put them up myself.
Today I am thankful for a very good shopping trip. I’ve been running in our local goodwill about once a week while I’m delivering for our business. Today I found identical almost new eureka sleeping bags for two daughters! I plan to pair those with a set of pjs and let that be an early Christmas gift. Spending the night camped under the Christmas tree will b a lot of fun. I also found myself a pair of jeans! Being hard to fit, this was a wonderful surprise!
I am thankful for a few hours I got to spend alone-ish today while my mom took my four youngest home with her. I got to clean my bedroom and bathroom really well before my piano lessons began. So thankful for my mom. When she brought my children back tonight, she finished cleaning up my kitchen for me and swept some. She knew I was tired after a long day of piano.
I’m also thankful that my husband picked up forty pound of leg quarters for$11.90 today. It was a one day special I missed yesterday, so I’m thankful that a friend who works at the grocery let me have them at yesterday’s price!
God is great to me. Glad you are feeling well enough to get around, brandy. I wish sewing came naturally for me. I can do things well with my hands, so I think I could learn, just seems my time is other places. I say maybe I can sew for my grandchildren perhaps one day! 🙂
Those are great ideas. My husband is suffering from back pain. He had an MRI today to try to determine the exact cause. Maybe he can use some of those ideas.
Today I am thankful that the 3 of us that had dental appointments do not have cavities. Our dentist cleaned our teeth, checked for cavities, measured my gum pockets to make sure I wasn’t getting gum disease, did x-rays on my husband, plus the full check-up on him in 2 appointments (today and last week), etc. He charged us $135. Total. He did this to be nice and supportive because he knows my husband is out of work and he knows my husband and I have no dental insurance. What a kind man, and such a blessing to us. He’s been my dentist since I was in high school– a dentist fresh out of dental school. I’m not a spring chicken anymore, so I know he will retire one of these days and I will miss his gentle ways and kindness.
I forgot to say that my children have medical cards because one is still a foster child, and the other was adopted at an older age, so they are insured. I’m thankful for that, as well.
Hi Becky and glad we could help both you and your husband. Hopefully the MRI will find the cause of his back pain too and they will be able to treat it.
The extra extension pipe on the vacuum cleaner also allows either my husband or myself to vacuum the skirting boards as well, and also vacuum away cobwebs from our 10ft high ceilings inside the house & the roof trusses on the verandas around the house as well.
You may also come up with some ideas too that will help as well :D.
