I’m thankful to be able to physically work in the garden today.

  1. I am thankful today for my yoga class. After some over-indulgence on the holiday, and some less than full days, and having missed two classes last week, it felt really good (and a little bad) to get a good workout today! It’s basically a stretch and flexibility and balance class for Seniors and I NEEDED it!!

  2. I am thankful for my washing machine. Yesterday I did 9 loads of laundry, 7 of which were bedding, & today I did 4 more loads, so far. I cannot imagine how long it would take me to wash that much bedding without a washing machine.

  3. Oh, boy! What a beautiful yard! A feast for the eyes!
I’m thankful for medicine, modern and herbal. Where would we be without them?

  4. Today I am thankful for my little dog. Her name is Penny Lulu and she has been very loving today. It feels so good to have her warm little body in the chair next to me.

  5. I am thankful for the little kindergarten children who visited our museum today. As they were getting ready to leave, one of the teachers must have been asked by a child if they had their shoes on the right feet. I overheard her replied “Well, if you have the right shoe on the one foot, do you think you have the right shoe on the other foot?” to which a child answered “No…you have the left shoe on the other foot”. We both burst out laughing. That just made my day!

  6. Today would’ve been my mom’s 79th birthday. I’m grateful that she spent her last couple of years living here with us.

  7. Oh, Brandy, I’m thankful for your website, recipes, insight, honest, and loveliness. I got some heartbreaking news tonight about some student debt we owe (it’s much higher than I originally thought) and broke down crying. I came to your blog and remembered that there is so much to be thankful for even when I’m not sure how we will make things work. But, I know that we WILL make things work!

  8. That reminds me of something my son told me years ago. He is now 42 almost 43. I looked down at his feet, he was about 3 just starting to dress himself everyday. I told him his shoes were on the wrong feet. He looked at me just as serious as he could be and told me ‘they are not the wrong feet; these are the only feet I have’ and I just howled with laughter at him. He did not know he was saying anything funny at all. Today that boy is a physician assistant at the hospital at Ft. Hood TX.

  9. I am thankful first of all for this community of like-minded souls who understand frugality and the freedom it gives to be generous with resources. I am thankful for a warm house and cuddl duds in -31 weather! I am thankful that a combination of coupons, e-coupons, marked down meat and Fred Meyer discount meant that we were able to save about $46.50 on groceries! I am thankful for a large stash of yarn that enables me to continue knitting hats for Native villages, homeless, and gifts. I am thankful for a state employee who straightened out my Permanent Fund application for the year–it was sent without my signature because I was in Kaktovik unable to fly out because of a volcano.

Most of all I am thankful for Brandy’s blog which means we think about blessings each November and for all who contribute.

  10. Marivene, I am also very thankful for my washing machine (and dryer). My husband and I have been married for 46 years and I have had a washer and dryer for 44 of these years, but I well remember not having the luxury of having them. I had to either wag baskets of clothes to my parents home or go to a washateria to do our laundry. I was so happy when we were able to purchase our own units. We received a $200 income tax refund and went to Sears to purchase our washer and dryer. We told the salesman that we had exactly $200 to spend and not a penny more. He tried to show us all of the fancy units that had all of the bells and whistles but we stuck to our guns and purchased units that we had the cash money for. To this day, We are now on our fourth set of these appliances and I still am very thankful.

  11. I am thankful for this lovely community of individuals. So interesting to hear from others from all over the world. Thrift is the same everywhere it seems:)

  12. Lisa, I am so sorry for your disappointing news. It looks like you’ve already realized that having a thankful heart changes everything. It will work out…one step at a time.
