  1. I am thankful that my partner was in the Air Force throughout our friendship prior to being together. The perspective that’s given me is one I’m happy to have, especially in the face of people who denigrate the armed forces and those who serve(d).

  2. Brandy, I echo your sentiment and pray for peace for those Veterans that still struggle as a result of their sacrifice.

  3. I am thankful for those who served and continue to serve to ensure freedom for all. I am thankful for my grandfather (army World War I), father (army World War II), father-in-law (army signals), aunt (army codes World War II), aunt (navy nurse World War II), godfather (naval officer retired), brother (navy communications), cousins and friends.

  4. I am thankful for those serving, and for their families. I didn’t know how much one person’s service impacted the whole family until our own son went in.
I’m also thankful for the chance to encourage another mother whose son was going in, and I’m thankful for my sister who reminded me that, “ The arm of the Lord is not short” when I was worried for my son’s safety.

  5. Thankful I could put my flag in the window (it’s raining hard, so I won’t hang it outside) and not have to worry about repercussions or attacks on me.
I mean, I do not live where there is ethnic warfare or an occupying force or other such threats to freedom. I can freely and proudly display the symbols of my country.

  6. I’m thankful that my husband came through his time in Viet Nam so that a decade and a half later we could meet. He has been the biggest blessing of my life.

  7. I’m thankful that my father, who served 30 years in the U.S. Navy, returned home to us safely after each of his many deployments and serving in wartime. And thankful that my mother was strong and steadfast through those years well before phone, text, email, video call access. It was telegram sent to announce a baby’s arrival but they still took ages.

  8. I am thankful for all my family members who served in the Armed Forces. Father – Air Force, FIL – Navy, DH – Marine Corps, Son – Army. Numerous other members not quite so closely related also served. My family has a history of serving in the US military dating back to the 1700s.

  9. I am grateful that my father survived the Korean War – so many in his unit did not. I am grateful for everyone who has served.

  10. I’m thankful to our veterans and to my husband, also a veteran.

I’m also thankful today that it was a cold and not Covid. I’m vaccinated but have some fragile family members I worry about. And I’m also thankful for the quick and free testing with the public health department!

  11. I am thankful for my experience being a career military wife and mom. It afforded me many unique opportunities and experiences which helped me relate to others and also shaped my teaching career.

  12. I am grateful to celebrate my husband’s first Veterans Day since he separated from the Army last June. I am so very proud of all the veterans we know and appreciate their service and sacrifice.

  13. I am thankful that both my grandparents survived and my father. I remember my great uncle who perished
at the battle of argonne –lemeuse. He was the father of a six month old baby. His wife was a true inspiration — not only did she raise her son as a single mother but she raised her sister’s child from his infancy. Her sister died in childbirth, so did that baby. The price of freedom is high.

  14. I am thankful for Veterans, not only for protecting us and our way of life, but for all the training they received. When I use to talk with Mom and Dad about the years they were married before he went overseas I remember them talking about all the inspections of uniforms, housing, etc. that made them better people when they came home and bought a home and had children. They already had a mindset that things were to be maintained properly, organized, and cleaned; finances should be handled properly; family should be cared for and taught respect; and they helped people whenever they could. There was a love and respect for everyone they met. I could almost pick out the parents who had been raised by Veterans when my son went to school decades later. Veterans got and gave a valuable education to their children by example that is not taught anywhere else.

  15. I am grateful to Veterans–an uncle killed in WWII, a father-in-law who served in Korea, and nephews who have been in the Army and Air Force. They all served selflessly. And I am grateful for freedom that has come through their service.

  16. I am thankful for so many men and women who have served sacrificially. The spouse, parent, sibling , friend who supported them and prayed for them, thank you. I have two sons doing active duty in the Army, we are grateful for them!

  17. So grateful for my family’s service. Father-in-law, World War II; father, World War II; stepfather, Korean War; brother, Viet Nam War; brother, Viet Nam War; first husband, Viet Nam era veteran; second husband, Viet Nam War; my aunt, World War II. These are the ones I can think of without digging into records. Each learned skills that they used after their military service.

To those who have served and those currently serving, thank you!

  18. I am thankful for all our veterans both past and present who keep us safe and sacrifice so much themselves.

Thankful for my husband who served in the Australian Army both here and overseas. I pray each and every day for him and others with the trauma and or pain that our military members have due to military service or training accidents.

  19. Those who have stepped up and have given to maintain our freedom are such heroes. I read somewhere that they do not sacrifice for what is ahead, but for those they’ve left behind. And I am so thankful they have. Freedom is not free.

  20. Most grateful for my Dad who was a fighter pilot in the AF and served for almost 40 years and my FIL who is a Marine and served in Vietnam. Both men have a strong love of their country and of freedom which they passed on to their families.
