Lemons in the kitchen The Prudent Homemaker

My 14-year-old son decided to clean the kitchen before and after dinner. I am so glad he saw what needed to be done and did it!

What are you thankful for today?

  1. Nov. 19–I am thankful that on Nov. 19, 1967, I met my husband. I was on a date with a friend of his and we had fixed him up with a friend of mine. We were married March 15, 1968. (And they all said, “I give it 6 months!”). We will have been married 52 years in March.

    1. I once met a woman at a laundromat who told me that she would rather have a washer-and-dryer than her refrigerator, and I agreed with her completely! Fortunately, my husband and I got our own shortly after that.
I will join with your thanks, as well as an appreciation for my classic very old Kenmores from Sears, which are still working well.

      1. I have actually lived without electricity, so no washer/dryer, fridge, heat, running water (you need a pump for that and a pump requires electricity) and so on. (Not uncommon in Alaska, even now) I agree, I would rather have had a washer (even without a dryer!) than a fridge. Which is why my pet peeve when watching programs set in the old west, with no electricity or running water, is that the clothes they wear are so clean.

        1. Mable, I agree on those westerns. Perfectly pressed shirts and pants on men that just rode a horse 20 miles through the desert? Unlikely. And the women have perfect lipstick on. Right…. Glad I’m not the only one that is bothered a bit by that.

  2. I am thankful for beautiful weather and a new sewing machine. My 40 yr. old machine just gave up, and it would have cost too much to fix it, so I bought a basic machine that has many more features than my old one. Once I learn how to use it, (things have sure changed in 40 years!) I can get to work on my Christmas projects.

  3. I am thankful for the show “The Good Doctor” which is doing a wonderful job of showing the many gifts, along with frustrating trials Autistic people go through in their daily lives. With the popularity of the show, I hope it helps educate the general public more about this disability and creates a better understand for those who deal with Autism in our communities.

    1. Rhonda, I agree with appreciating what the Good Doctor illustrates about the gifts and frustrations of being having high functioning autism. However, I think the shows gives the impression that co-workers and managers are much more accepting and accommodating of these differences than they are in real life. We had a long term foster child who was very gifted in science but lost job after job because people felt it took too much time and effort to accommodate his idiosyncrasies. More than one said he was “creepy” because of his tendency to stare. It was heart-breaking.

      1. I absolutely agree with you, Mable! Society, as a whole, often doesn’t take the time to accomodate their disabilities. However, I see this show illustrating with proper understanding and support, people with high functioning Autism have a lot to contribute if given the chance. Hollywood tends to “glamourize” a lot of situations that just don’t happen in real life. But it does bring to light the subject and demonstrate, in it’s Hollywood way, that people with Autism have amazing talents (and not just in science) that should be appreciated more than they currently are.

  4. I am thankful for this blog! I have a hard time seeing things from a bright perspective today although I have no problems and I live a priviledge life. I am very thankful for my health and the love that I feel around me. I am thankful for my mother and her kindness, I am thankful for my good sleep this week and that my daughter sleeps better at night. I am thankful that my boyfriend did the laundry and cleaned the bathroom. I am thankful for the time spent together folding the laundry.

  5. I am thankful for a clean house. I spent a couple of hours yesterday getting the basics caught up–bathroom, wiped down surfaces, stove scrubbed. I had guests over last night. It felt great to wake up to a clean house today and knowing that I don’t have to do much housework–at least today.

  6. Thankful for enough leftovers and a husband who will eat the same thing two days running—cuts down on my work and clean up!

  7. I am thankful the snow stopped, the handibus system was back to normal today after suffering huge technical problems yesterday. It was a beautiful day with blue skies and snow-laden trees. I had forgotten, with all the troubles yesterday, that I had pre-booked a trip this morning and realized it about twenty minutes before the handibus arrived. I scrambled and got ready. I decided the snow was just too heavy to shovel one-handedly. My snow shoveller sent his son over and they finished right before my friend showed up. I watched the birds while I waited for her. I was so thankful to have 2 strong young men. to shovel me out.

  8. Although it’s been fairly warm(ish) the past few days, I am always so, so thankful for our heated blanket! I can’t believe it took us so long to buy one, after a garage sale blanket died. I do believe we’ll never go without one ever again!

  9. I am thankful for the successes of the day, but I am also thankful that tomorrow is a whole new day. I would like to get a few things done tomorrow that I did not get to today.

  10. I am thankful my children (grown) are each in their homes tonight, after one deployment this year.
I am thankful for a washing machine (no dryer) and a windy day to dry the clothes. I’m very thankful for a clean house tonight, even if it is a fixer-upper. It’s been messy and dirty for weeks, while we’ve tackled urgent projects

  11. I’m thankful that my daughter had Christmas program practice again tonight. Last year, she wanted to join in, but did not feel brave enough, since the teens are singing with the adults. This year, she did join, had been practicing since September, and will be in the program in early December. I feel it’s a wonderful opportunity for her, as well as a chance to help bring Christmas joy to a lot of people.

On November 19th I was very thankful for my daughter’s co-worker who took the time to jump start her car so she could get home safely.

  13. I am thankful for a son who is deployed this year. The military has gotten him on the right track and that is a huge answer to prayers!

  14. I am thankful for a loving marriage to a good man, a smart, busy toddler, and a new baby on the way! I’m also thankful I’m beginning to feel him/her move. 🙂

  15. I’m thankful for the ability to do more now. Before surgery I couldn’t bend over and standing to cook was difficult. I actually ran after something yesterday that blew in the wind and bent over to pick it up! I’ve been able to clean my house more quickly and standing to cook doesn’t hurt anymore. Finally, I can breathe better as the tumors are no longer pushing on my lungs. I am so grateful for great medical care and I thank God for healing as well as I have.
