Cemetery Flags The Prudent Homemaker

It’s been a busy weekend!

Here is my list of gratitude: one for each day.

I’m thankful a kind friend, the chance to take photos of another photographer’s family, a day of rest, and today, for the opportunity to help my son improve his writing today.

I am also immensely grateful for today, Armistice Day, Veteran’s Day, and for those who have served.

What are you thankful for?

  2. I’m thankful today for–
Nov. 8–My good friend, Heather, who helps me one day a week with cleaning, gardening, etc. On Friday, she led the way for us to organize and began unpacking our garage. (We moved here in June 2018). We can now park one car in the garage, and with just a little more effort, we will be able to park two!!

Nov. 9–my beautiful daughter, who is 43 and has developmental disabilities. Our home is full of life, fun and laughter when she is with us (half of every week). Love you, Chipmunk!

Nov. 10–for the $3 cinema, where we saw Downtown Abbey Sunday night. DA fans will love it!

  3. In England we mark the day on a Sunday and it’s called Remembrance Sunday. I have a lump in my throat remembering those who served, and my own currently serving. May God be with them all.

I don’t have it every day, or even every week, just often enough.

  5. November 8th – I am thankful for my mom, who has been so generous, kind and supportive of our family when we needed her the most.

November 10th – I am thankful to have the funds to buy Christmas gifts without worry. It hasn’t always been that way, which has made me realize how grateful I am to be in this position.
November 11th – I am so incredibly grateful for the month long trip, my husband & I were able to take to Europe this past April. We learned just how devastating WWII was for so many people over there, especially the Jews. Because of what we saw and experienced, I have so much more gratitude that our country has not experienced a war on our own soil since our early inception. We have much to be thankful for here in Canada!

  6. I too am grateful for our soldiers. I am also grateful for the healing power of forgiveness and humanity. My grandfather was a torpedoed British sailor in the First World War. The German sailors pointed them towards the nearest land. I wear my poppy brooch with pride and thankfulness.

I am thankful for the courage of his young widow my beloved great aunt who raised her toddler son by herself. with enormous support from her little village. And I am thankful for the many kindnesses that she showed my mother, including encouraging her to go to university, and sewing an entire wardrobe for her for work.

  8. I am thankful that our yard sale was successful and that the night of rain cleared for a lovely day that day.
I’m also thankful for all the veterans, and those especially dear to me, having known them personally:
    My great-uncle, WWI, Europe
My dad and four uncles, WWII, Europe and Pacific
My husband’s uncle, who landed at Normandy (and survived!)
    Another uncle, Korea
My husband, cousin and brother-in-law, Vietnam Era, serving stateside, Japan, and Europe
    My nephew, Bosnia
    My husband’s great-nephew, Iraq
    Thank you!!!!

  9. I am thankful that today there is help for veterans who suffer from PTSD. There was no such help for veterans of WWI and II and they and their families suffered, often in silence, thus making trauma an intergenerational suffering.

  10. Just returned from a dental checkup to see how much damage being ill has done to my teeth and gums. Fairly good checkup with a list of work to be done over the course of the next year. Wonderful news!

Grateful for our veterans and their families who sacrifice so much to keep us free.

  11. My husband and I are retired and I’m so thankful we have plenty of money to buy groceries.

We also have enough to give a monthly donation to help a young girl in India, and a monthly donation to a blind cat shelter . I feel so blessed to be able to do both these things.

  12. I’m thankful I didn’t get selected for jury service this morning (but grateful to live in a country where a fair and transparent legal system is something we take for granted). And one more – I’m already grateful for the cappuccino I’ll be treating myself to as a reward.,

  13. As my elderly aunt lies comatose in the hospital, I reflect with thanks on her kindness to and lack of judgement of my mother, a teen divorcee in the midwest in the 1950s, and on her kindness to and unconditional acceptance of that teenager’s little girl (me), when other members of the family found grace too difficult to extend.

  14. I am happy to be married to a veteran and able to spend a life with him. It is nice to see people remembering veterans on Veterans Day.

  15. I didn’t realize this thread also included Veterans’ Day when I posted earlier. Today I’m thankful for the Greatest Generation–my parents’ generation–who fought World War 2 and saved the world. I had several veterans in my family, including my Aunt Alice (my mom’s twin) who enlisted in the Women’s Army Corps (WACs) and was a nurse’s aide in US Army hospitals in England. (When she died, she was buried with full military honors).

  16. I am also thankful for those who serve our country. I have 10 family members who have served or are serving including one of my own children.
I am grateful for a beautiful day today, sunny and in the 60’s. That is good weather for here in northern Maryland.
I am grateful for my husband actually asking me if I wanted to go shopping to take advantage a Veterans Day sale after he had been searching online for a good deal on something we needed which was a surprise because I didn’t know he was looking.
I am thankful for some distant relatives whom we happened to get back in touch with and have been enjoying our conversations.

  19. I am grateful for the ability to have sick leave from work when I don’t feel well. My daughter-in-law and I were both ill over the weekend and today. We both had to call in, but I have sick leave that enables me to still get paid, where she does not. Thankfully she is a good manager of money and has wisely planned for days like this, so I am also grateful for her ability to plan carefully with her finances.

  20. I am thankful for the sense of smell. Today I caramelized onions and my home was filled with a rich, homey fragrance, reminding me how blessed we are to have warm, delicious foods to eat, that are healthy and belly-filling. I love all the aromas of fall and winter spices.

  21. I am thankful for my son. He’s always there when I need help or someone to just listen. .

  22. I am thankful for all the medical staff who are helping us through my husband’s heart attack. Without their knowledge and experience he would not be here today. I am thankful for my husband’s wisdom yesterday in realizing he was having a heart attack while sitting in church. I am thankful we were at church, just 4 minutes from the hospital, and not at home which is 20 minutes from the hospital. I am thankful I am talking to a doctor and not a funeral director tonight.

      1. Yes, I do. I am also thankful for our children, family and friends who have been here to support us. It’s good to know we don’t have to do this alone.

I am thankful that my mom taught me to sew so many years ago.

  26. My father, born in Russia, was in boarding school in Germany when the Nazis took over. He was pulled out of school and forced to go through the training program for pilots and ended up flying fighter planes for Germany, against the Allied forces. It was that or be killed for refusing. He was captured and ended up in a POW camp until the war ended. He ended up working for the American army as a translator, since he spoke German, Russian and English. The military man he worked for sponsored my father so he could emigrate to the U.S. My entire childhood my father would remind us how lucky we were to be born in this country and how we had a duty to be productive citizens because otherwise someone else whose children did contribute to this country should have come over instead of my father. On Vet’s Day I remember all the young men who fought in that war, not always voluntarily. As fewer and fewer members of our federal government are vets, I fear that it becomes easier and easier for them to send our kids to war. Today I am especially thankful for every man and woman in our military, who still answer the call.
