  1. it would be interesting to hear from your husband’s perspective on frugal living–any tips for other husbands, or tips for getting your husband on board to make some of these changes.

  2. My husband grew up in a more frugal family than I did! He is a very frugal person and he understands what needs to be done to make ends meet. He trusts me to do the best with what we can afford and the two of us constantly look for more ways to save money. He worked from home two days this week to save the cost of gas to drive to his office. He has always worked hard to live within his means.

When it comes to working things out with a spouse, you just have to write down and budget and talk about it, and make it work. We talk about the little expenses a lot; I think that is important.

  3. A few months back, some squatters moved in on our land. They set about building a home for themselves, and before we even knew they were there, they had a dozen children. We’ve watched as they’ve grown from fuzzy little yellow balls into maturity. Mr and Mrs Duck are very good parents; all of their children have survived. Last year Mr and Mrs Geese weren’t so lucky – they started out with six children but four of them were taken by foxes. It always feels like such a privilege when animals decide to let you observe them raise their families! I am thankful for Mr and Mrs Duck and for all of the other animals in years past who have also decided to trust us in this way.

  4. Not quite sure how to contact you anymore. But I want to comment on the fact tha t everytime someone makes a comment I get a notification in my email. I’m sorry but I’m not llikeing that feature. I wish your bog was like the old one.

  5. Laurie, I think I can turn that off! I will look for it. I was wondering if it did that and that would be annoying.

Blogger was great in many ways, and this is a whole new learning curve for me (and there isn’t much in the way of instructions) but I’m happy to have it finally integrated with the website. Thank you for your patience while I try to get things working properly with the email subscription. So far my host says it is sending, and it shows that–but very few if any are getting anything. Have you just started getting comment emails or ever since the beginning of November?

My contact info is down below on every page in the black section; you can click there for my contact info.

    Thanks for letting me know!

  6. Brandy, you are very lucky (or blessed) to have a husband that understand and participates in frugality. Just writing it down, budgeting and talking about it WILL NOT work with someone who is totally resistant to frugal ideas. Talking about money always turned to ugly arguments about money and anything else that wasn’t working in our marriage.

What can work with a non-frugal person is to simply live frugally yourself. Do all you can to show by your actions that you can live on a budget. Show your non-frugal spouse the great things you get on sale or at a yard sale or thrift store. Be a happy person and express gratitude often. It took over twenty years to “convert” my husband to a level of frugality that is making a difference in our lives. I don’t dwell on what we could have accomplished, I look forward to what we will now accomplish being on the same page.

    1. Ditto for me. Any for me was the mentor that got my attention focused on frugality and what it could accomplish. Loved her newsletters and I recall receiving her premiere edition was so exciting, after seeing her first appearance on the Donahue Show.

  7. I am thankful to have the resources to take a young mom who is going through a hard time with her own health and the health of her baby, shopping for Christmas gifts for their two little girls! She has been unable to work and they have huge medical bills to face. Can’t wait! My girls are grown and it will be such fun buying things for little girls again.

  8. Where I use to live, there were lots of ponds. I LOVED the ducks. There were drains near by and it never failed baby ducks would fall in the drain hole. I would lay down on the ground and rescue those babies for their mothers. The mother duck would sit there and quack and quack until someone would help her. Loved those ducks. 🙂

  9. I know he’s unusual 🙂 I am grateful for that!

Thank you for sharing your tips about a non-frugal spouse. That would be a very difficult situation, especially on a very tight budget. I know money is the most common reasons spouses argue. Thank you for sharing what works for your marriage!

  10. I would love to hear the story of how you and your husband met. My boyfriend is 13 years older, a similar age gap as you two, if i recall correctly. I’d love to hear how that has (or hasn’t!) affected your relationship.

  11. Oh, how sweet! Ducks are such good parents. A couple of times we’ve gotten a bit too close to this duck family – not intentionally; they just happened to be walking where we wanted to go – and we’ve all enjoyed the show as Mr Duck acts as decoy – flapping around on the ground like his wing is broken – while Mrs Duck gets the babies safely away. I don’t know much about animal behaviour; but watching the way they take care of and protect their family is just so precious.

  12. Shelia, that is very nice of you. Know you will enjoy it, and the new mom will be really thankful..God bless and hope you and yours have a blessed Thanksgiving.

  13. I am thankful to be able to have two of my younger grandchildren visit while their mother attends an EMS conference. It s such a blessing to read with them & to help them learn.

  14. I am also thankful for my husband! He stood by me during the most difficult times, and he is supportive and loving in everything we do. Just this morning one of my coworkers was telling me about her sister’s marital problems, and it made me even more thankful that I have such a wonderful man in my life.

  15. Me, too. I still re-read Amy’s books. And Brandy is the new Amy (to me). Brandy’s website is always the first one I look at. Words cannot express how grateful I am to Brandy for her beautiful ideas. Thank you, Brandy.
