I am thankful for a little boy who finds joy in the simple things, like Christmas lights on the drive to school and writing his name. I am thankful for a baby who woke up early just for snuggle time with Mommy and a favorite story to have read to him.
I am thankful for past year’s holiday décor that brighten my house this year. It is always fun to find new ways to bring Christmas decorating a fresh look each year. Somethings come out every year, but in new places or put together in a different setting. I don’t use everything, every year, so it is also nice to see somethings that have been stored away for a while come back again.
I am thankful for leftover turkey because I’m the only one who likes turkey in my family so I get all the leftovers.

I am thankful for free medical care of a high quality. I am thankful that everyone gets medical care, whether rich or poor. My monthly pension would not even cover a quarter of the cost if I had to pay for it.

I’m thankful I stayed home today. It seems like there are so many activities right now and I felt like I really needed to put my attentions here.
I am thankful that the store had loaves of bread for 0.49 a loaf, a really excellent price here. I could not eat it but bought 4 loaves for a woman begging outside the store. She said she needed food, milk, bread for her child. That may or may not have been true but for $2.00 I bought 4 loaves for her and 2 packages of 0,49 bags of bagels. It is so unusual to see someone asking for food outside a store here, that I would rather have it on my conscience that I gave as opposed to not giving. I am thankful that as tight as it is here for me for money (and it is very tight this month), that I have food, shelter, and heat.
I’m thankful for a silly thing that made me laugh this morning – two pre-lit trees, in urns, that I picked up at Home Depot last year after Christmas for $8/p (marked down from $30/p – the sale stickers were still on the boxes). I had stashed them, unopened, with the Christmas items, and promptly forgot about them. This morning I pulled the boxes out, thinking, “What are these…?” I remembered and was so tickled, because I’ve wanted trees in urns by the front door for several years, and there they were. I felt as if I’d been given a present.
I am thankful for the warm weather and the smell of laundry that has been “line dried”.
I am thankful that we completed our 6 weekly grocery shop yesterday and had the available funds in the grocery budget to stock up on an additional 8kg of flour, 9kg of raw sugar, 5kg of rice, and 4.5kg of rolled oats at 5% off usual prices using our roadside assist gift card discount. Our food storage room is looking increasingly fuller as the months go by 😀 .

I am thankful for Elisa B.’s comments for me a couple of days ago on the GE Profile induction range. As I replied elsewhere,
although reviews are almost unanimously favourable, the Consumer Reports rating wasn’t all that high. The model has very nice features with a bridge element, warming drawer, true convection oven. I can get financing for it where I don’t have to pay for a year. It is greatly reduced on sale now. I was glad to hear about Elisa B’s experience. Thanks again, Elisa.

I am thankful for a husband who makes me coffee every morning, two beautiful daughters in college who make good grades and a little pug puppy who thinks I’m the bomb.
Lorna, thank you for the very kind words. I wished I could have bought her milk, too, but I was running out of money to get home with (as it was I barely had enough). Other people had also given her some things, too, so I think someone would probably have given her some milk. I would rather be begged for money for food than for money alone because often spare change just goes for drugs. It was really lucky that all of the bread was on sale. I’m not sure that she really had a child but even if not I’m sure she alone needed food. thanks again!
Ellie’s friend from Canada I will also buy people food or a meal but not give money to those I see who are in need, mainly the homeless. That way I feel that at least they have food in their stomachs for at least that day. I agree that most use that money for drugs and alcohol unfortunately but with food we can rest assured they will have something to eat that day.
