I’m thankful that my husband is willing to try making things he has never made before!

He says that if I design it, he will build it!

I’ve been doing a lot of designing lately, so it’s been amazing to watch my designs come to life!

What are you thankful for today?

  1. I’m thankful for the inspiration I received from my paternal grandfather to learn how to can. My sisters and I were always fascinated by the rows of canned fruit and vegetables that he had in the basement when we were growing up. He was raised on a farm in the 1880ies and 1890ies and learned how to do all this. I don’t do nearly as much as he did but I like know how to do it and seeing those jars in the pantry.

  2. I am grateful I could tell a friend to go to Aldi’s and buy her ham ($2.19/lb.) and get one for her cousin in KY that had called her crying as all the half hams around her were $70 and she couldn’t afford a Christmas ham. My friend had already planned to go down (we are in OH and she is originally from KY) to visit family. Said she was able to buy her four cousins hams for their early Christmas gift.

  3. I am thankful for individuals who have chosen to become servants to others in usually low-paying, unglamorous and too often, thankless positions. I am grateful for teachers at all levels, including early childhood and college (we have both in our family), social workers, coaches, clergy, nurses, first responders, youth directors and caregivers for the home-bound, among others.

    1. Dawn, your gratitude post warmed my heart. I am most thankful for assistants in the Special Needs classrooms that learn all the small, tiny, comfort things for kids like my nonverbal, severely autistic teenage son. The assistants closely assist my son all day. He needs a team of helpers. They learn the cues when he’s struggling, redirecting him before he cycles into rages and hurts himself or others in his path. They bring so much joy into his school day. They are directly responsible for the respite care his school day provides me, his 24/7/365 caregiver. They are priceless. Tears fill my eyes with gratitude for the loving care they give my son.

  4. I’m thankful for my health that enables me to work in the yard and gardens. While I’m not the most physically fit person, I’m able to do what I need to do, and continue on my fitness goals.

  5. I am thankful that I got to swim today. Swimming makes me feel young, light and sporty instead of a bag of weary old bones!

  6. I am thankful that the weather yesterday was pleasant, and we were able to wrap up our garden. My DH and I dug and prepared for winter, 15 pounds each of beets and carrots and 25 pounds of potatoes.

  7. I’m thankful for our long-time friends who haven’t abandoned us for political differences, and for new friends we’ve made.

    1. Cara you really made me think reading your post being thankful for friends who haven’t abandon you with political differences
I am struggling with this immensely as I saw it as a difference in moral values
Your statement touched my heart so I will let this sink in
      Thank you very much

  8. I am grateful to have hope in my life, so that when one day doesn’t go well, there is hope that the next one will be better, and I will be a better person.

  9. I’m thankful for my two cats. One is a love bug and the other is still half feral and barely lets us near her, but they are both as amusing as all get out.

  10. I’m thankful I was able to make and can pickle relish and tomato relish this year. The pickle relish tastes delicious mixed with tuna for sandwiches and my dad is enjoying the tomato relish in his beans with cornbread on the side. The relish adds a little something to an otherwise ordinary meal. I’m grateful to everyone in this blog community for teaching me how to stretch my food dollars.

  11. Such beautiful work, Brandy! Thank you for sharing.

I am grateful for lovely weather this past weekend and for the physical ability to get the garden cleaned up for the winter.

  12. I am really thankful that my daughter and her fiancé are on board with having a deep pantry. My future son-in-law started out a couple of years ago laughing at my pantry and sharing food with my daughter. Now he’s not laughing and thinks she and I are amazing. I’m so glad there’s not going to be a disconnect as my daughter has learned well how to budget and shop wisely for her pantry and wants to bring those skills to her marriage. I’m breathing a sigh of relief with the way things worldwide are moving.

      1. Thank you, Maxine. It was a very close call a couple times there, but I must have a job still to do since I’m still here. I’m thankful too. It’s tough to find the energy somedays, but I’m determined to participate in being thankful everyday as a part of Brandy’s team.

  13. I am thankful my husband figured out a mechanical issue on our motorcycle this afternoon, he had spent all day on it and was very frustrated. Finally, after he disassembled it more, he found the issue and will be able to repair it! Lots of effort but it all was worth it. (1971 Honda CB 500 motorcycle, fifty years old this year, and he keeps it running like a top).

  14. I am thankful for the abundant fruit harvest I had this year. After sharing with others and eating plenty fresh, there was still enough to preserve. If next year’s harvest is small, my family has jam, juice, and dried fruit to last into the next year.

  15. Today I am thankful for the tiny sprouts of lettuce I can see in my container garden at work. It never ceases to amaze me when seeds sprout!

  16. I am thankful for a free day to drive to the foothills for my annual apple house trip. Work got cancelled and I called the store to check their supplies and decided to make the trip to two stores. I bought several boxes for friends and my daughter, plus for my hubs and I. I got apples, potatoes, sweet potatoes, and plums. It was a beautiful day and the leaves were gorgeous. My fall feels complete now!

  17. I am thankful for a fun family party last night, complete with costumes, delicious food and desserts, and that all our grown children live locally.

  18. Today i’m grateful that we live where we do. The air is clean, we’re blocks from the lake and we’ve made friends we love and enjoy.

  19. I am thankful the government was able to process our ISBN number for our book in less than two business days — requested it late on Friday, received it early this morning. Surely that sets a record for speedy response. I am thankful that in Canada there is no charge to obtain the number.

I am thankful for free movies on the internet. I’m only watching them at night when work on the book has ceased.

I am thankful for wonderful friends.

  21. I’m thankful for my husband’s generosity. We loaned money to friends to keep them from becoming homeless. Today he called and told them we would be forgiving their November payment. I asked him why November and not December? After all, Christmas is in December! He gave me an odd look and replied, “It’s so they can afford Christmas for their kids!” Gotta love that man!

  22. I have read all the thankful posts. So emotionally stirring. In times as trying as we are in being grateful sure lifts the heart. It helps you focus on the good instead of the challenging.

I am grateful for the best garden harvest I’ve ever had. Lots of canning and freezing. Full freezers and shelves. God does provide. We have food security no matter what the next year brings. I don’t take this lightly as I know many don’t have this luxury. And I’m able to help others in need with a meal as needed.

  23. I am thankful for everything my family pulled together and got accomplished yesterday. DH did some work around the house and car maintenance. DS mowed and cleared leaves on most of the yard.

I had of list of errands to run and checked the Food Lion ad. They had a buy two (sale prices) and get one free on some groceries I wanted at those prices. DH went with me to run errands and when we got back all of us came together to fit the frozen food in the freezer. Previously I had been using down some food upstairs and rearranged a couple shelves plus. I took out the rest of the tomatoes to can and put them in the refrigerator to start thawing. I put some chopped peppers, etc. I into larger bags that weren’t full. Some things were taken to the freezer downstairs. Some items we bought were unboxed or repackaged to get rid of bags with excess air to make things fit better with extra room. It all came together nicely and kept the freezer organization intact.

Afterwards we had a simple meal of hamburgers and French fries and watched half of RBG to be continued tonight.
