Hamish

A month ago, I gave birth to a baby boy.

We now have five daughters and four sons.

This baby boy was our biggest child! He was 9 pounds, 1 ounce (4,11 kg) and 22 inches long. He was born at home on April 27th at 8:20 p.m.

His name is Hamish.

  3. What a beautiful baby!! When I worked in newborn nursery as a nurse, those big guys were “my babies”. I loved that they were almost the size of a toddler and we could put those little t-shirts on them. Great name. I like it when parents choose traditional names today. Are you of Scottish heritage? Blessings to you, the family, and that wonderful child.

  4. Welcome and Congratulations ! I come from a famly of nine also and exactly like yours 4 boys 5 girls.. I am #5 of the girls, but in birth order I am number 8 !! Love a big family!!

  6. Hamish fits right in with your other beautiful children What a gift you have given them with siblings. My mom was one of 13 and there was such a richness in their relationships with one another. God bless you all.

  7. He is so content in his washpan! You are indeed blessed to have such a healthy family. My babies were three months old before they were that size–but they started out around 6 lbs at birth. I was only 5 ft tall–now a couple inches shorter–you don’t look very tall in your photos, but taller than I for sure. I look forward to seeing and hearing about his exploits in the months and years to come!

  8. What a beautiful baby. His name is great. Does it have a meaning? Your picture of him is so sweet. Thank you for sharing. Congratulations to your family.

  14. Hello Brandy and a big congratulations to your whole family on the new addition Hamish 🙂 . Try and get some rest in, where you can, until you recover.

How gorgeous is he and going on his birth length Hamish will grow into an over 6′ lovely young man similar to your husband who also looks tall as well.

Both my sons were long born at 20″ and 20.5″ long, 9lb 7oz and premmie at 8lb 6oz, and grew into adult full height at 6’2″ tall and 6’3″ in height.

  15. What a beautiful name! I love the fact that you choose not to just take “any” names but made it really special. What stories to tell your children later! I have a little story I’d like to share for laughter. I was pregnant with my second child, a girl and had to have a c section. We were happy to welcome any gender into our family praying for a healthy child. I had decorated the room by painting a tree mural with birds and butterflies on the wall and started to write the name on a sign that was on the door. The name was going to be Katja, a name that has special meaning to me. To make a long story short, birthday was there…and the doctor asked what name if any we had decided on when our little darling was born. We told him and he said, ok…what else..we said there were no others, whereof he responded we better come up with a boys name!!!!!!!! I have a picture of us, crying in surprise, relief and happiness all at the same time right in the op room. We actually found a name right that day…that starts with just the same two letters! Kai! And he honors his name fully as he is like a wave in the ocean, gentle and kind, but strong and determined. The pictures of Hamish you posted are adorable, what little angle. You light up my life with stories, ideas and your way of mothering, for that I am very grateful! God bless you and your family, much happiness to you and yours.

  16. Hamish is such a sturdy, handsome fellow! Please let us know how you came up with his name as well. 🙂

  17. Congratulations, Brandy and family. What a sweet baby; and I loved hearing your voice on Instagram. He’s so alert. I do love big babies. My first was over 9 lbs.

  23. I just finished reading A Drop in the Ocean by Jenni Ogden. In the book, a storm rides over Australian islands along the Great Barrier Reef. A baby is born on one of the islands during the storm and is named Hamish after the storm’s name. A little trivia! Congrats to you and your family!

  24. Hi Marcia you were lucky with your babies being 6lb when they were born. I’m 4 ft 11 and 3/4” and my boys were 8lb 4oz and 9lb respectively and both were 22 inches long. My fault I suppose for marrying a man who is 6ft 2” tall. I always say I was pregnant from my eyebrows to my toes with both my boys. One is 16 and 6’ 1” the other is 14 and 5’ 8” so I always feel like I’m living in a land of giants

  25. Congratulations to you and your family on that beautiful little fella! I absolutely adore the name you chose. You pick such great names for your little ones!

  26. He’s a beauty! Congratulations to all of you. What a lucky chap to have so many brothers and sisters to watch out for him.

  27. Congratulations!! How do you do all this? I’m a homeschooling mama of 7 and I’m encouraged by your posts.
    Thank you!
